Presentation

Today my group and I gave our presentation..I think it went pretty well considering everything that happened with it. We had many group meetings and people would not show or someone would have no clue what they were supposed to do and it got very annoying. I did not want to take charge of the group but I kind of had too. We forgot to have the timer on the power point slides but before we did we fixed it. Other groups went too and i think they did very well. We never quite practiced ours so it did not flow as well as it could have but oh well. We met twice because our first meeting was rather pointless but at least it got finished. The part about our surveys could have been better but we did not get a ton of responses like i wish we had.

Lafollette Food Plaza!!

In English we have to do a group project. It is just like a little ethnographic study of public areas around campus. My group and I decided to observe and interview the students who eat at lafollette food court. All the people in my group are freshmen and Lafollette is a freshmen dorm. We all are going to interview someone, the boys in my group are going to interview the workers and staff of the American Buffet. While the girls are going to interview the people choosing to eat at the downstairs portion of the food court. I think that we will learn something we were not expecting, but we really are not expecting much of anything at this point. We also have to do a survey to find out more information but my group and I have not decided what to do for that yet we are still discussing.

Did we land or did we not??

The question of the day...did we land on the moon or was it all just a setup? Today in class we learned that anyone could make a website and post it to the web. I think how anyone could make a website and post their opinions is really cool. Many people do have some pretty cool things to say, but saying this not all of it is true. The Internet can be very deceiving if you are not aware of websites that are just bologna. This one website that I looked at was talking about how we did not land on the moon and that is was just all a hoax. I might have actually believed the website if it looked more professional and not like someone who all they have is free time to work on it. (but if you think about it if they did have all the free time in the world it would look a little better). haha The website did not even have great images. It made me feel like I needed to put some glasses on to see the pictures clearly because they were that fuzzy! Nope, sry website author but you did not persuade me today maybe if you fix it up a little but, wait, i mean a lot, then maybe just maybe I could be persuaded.

It is happening in America, but it is also happening to its People

Today our final draft for our topic proposal was due. But last Wednesday I had a conference with Tess Evans my English teacher. In her office we talked about my topic proposal. My topic is sex trafficking of women. She started to explain that this topic could be written about in many different ways. For example, I could talk about how trafficking of women is done in asia or I could write a whole paper just on the ways governments are trying to stop it. The way I am going to go with my paper is that women are being trafficked in our neighborhoods all across America and on the other side I will talk about how American women are being tricked into being sex slaves in other foreign countries too. Tess Evans was the one who brought up the idea of American women becomming sex slaves in other countries. The conference was very helpful!

In class today we peer reviewed other students papers. I am not the best with grammar so I am hoping that they do not rely on me to fix all of their mistakes when I make plenty of my own. My topic I think is a topic that not many people know about because it does not affect them. So in my paper I want to tell these people that it does effect them because it affects our country's reputation which reflects its people. I peer reviewed one of the girls in my group and her paper is going to be about cell phones and their physical and mental effect that they have one people. I think that this is a great topic because almost everyone has a cell phone and our culture has become obsessed with technology and without it most of us would be lost.

Writing Center

Today in English we went to the Writing Center. There they told us about how we could use the writing center to our advantage. There are many reasons that people use the writing center not only for just English but for other things as well. I think that it is pretty cool that our school offers something like the writing center. I know that I need help writing papers a lot. I get stuck on trying to wrap up the paper and so I always end up with a bad ending. For our next assignment I will try the writing center to see if it does improve my grade.

What to do??

I really do not know what topic I am going to write about. I have a couple ideas that i have been thinking about. One of the ideas is Greek Life at Ball State. I kind of do not know how to narrow that down into something I can write about. I was also thinking about Child sex trafficking. I amstill thinking about the question I can have for my project.

Syllabus

Our instructor Tess Evans gave us a syllabus for the spring semester. English 104 was beginning to seem harder and harder as she went through the syllabus. I am quite worried for this English class more than any other one. I am not very computer savvy and one of the assignments she expects us to do is build our own website. This for me feels like an impossible task. I am nervous to find out the ending of my own story in English 104. Will it be a dramatic ending filled with suspense or an ending that everyone lives happily ever after? I actually would like a mixture of both. We also went over how attendance is important which should not nbe hard for me considering I live in the building in which class is held.
